Night Shift is designed to reduce the amount of light from the blue spectrum and improve the quality of sleep, and therefore in the evening colours the picture almost orange. In addition, the function works on a schedule and based on geolocation, without reacting in any way to the light. For example, if you move to the bathroom from a dark bedroom, the screen will remain yellow even under bright fluorescent lights.
In this way, the technologies complement each other: True Tone adjusts the white balance in the moment, and Night Shift adjusts it before bedtime.
Does the feature affect the battery
Unfortunately, there is no official data on the impact of True Tone on the battery life of devices. However, according to users’ observations, the feature does not affect the battery. For example, the results of one of the polls on the MacRumors forum say so.
Why there is no True Tone switch in the settings
Sometimes the feature is not available on supported gadgets – there is simply no corresponding toggle switch in the settings. This usually happens when there are any problems with the screen, and most often – when replacing it with a non-original one.
In a quality repair, the data of the native display controller is read by a special programmer and rewritten into a new one. So the smartphone thinks that the part is the same, and all functions work properly. Basement services do not have the appropriate equipment, so after the replacement of the display True Tone, as a rule, does not work. And it is important to clarify this, for example, when buying an iPhone from hand.
