‘Unfavourable situation’: Czech president warns of shift in Ukraine conflict

In 2024, there will be a major shift in the conflict in Ukraine, Czech President Petr Pavel has said. In his opinion, the shift will be “not exactly in the best sense of the word”. The politician connects the changes with the elections in Russia and the USA, which may lead to a situation unfavourable for Europe.

Negative forecast
In 2024 in the military conflict in Ukraine will be a major shift, said in an interview with the publication Seznam Zpravy Czech President Petr Pavel.

“The development of the conflict in Ukraine indicates that we are likely to see significant progress next year. And, judging by the information available so far, not exactly in the best sense of the word….. There will be a new situation that we will have to deal with,” the Czech leader said.

In his opinion, the development of the conflict will be influenced by the elections in Russia and the United States .

“President Putin has made it very clear that peace talks are out of the question until the outcome of the US elections is clear. At the same time, he has made it clear that his partner in possible negotiations will be none other than the US. And none of the major European countries,” Pavel opined.

According to the Czech leader, his Russian counterpart expects that if Donald Trump returns to power, he “will be able to come to an agreement with him regardless of what Ukraine and the rest of Europe thinks”.

“There could be some kind of compromise that could theoretically return Russia to the status of a key player, and the rest will have to put up with it somehow. This situation is certainly disadvantageous for us, and we will see how feasible such a scenario is,” the Czech president said.
