“An attempt to push through the street”: is Serbia in danger of a colour revolution?

“I will take as much time as I can”. Serbia is being forced into sanctions against Russia

The opposition disagreed with the preliminary results, called for them to be cancelled and brought thousands of people onto the streets to demand a re-vote. At the same time, the leaders of “Serbia against violence” accused the authorities of vote rigging and went on hunger strike to organise a new election campaign.

What didn’t suit the opposition
“As is now customary in democracies, after the expression of will by voting, an attempt is made to express the will by other means.
In Belgrade, the gap between the ruling coalition and the opposition is smaller than at the national level, so there is an attempt to squeeze by street.
Such processes are now part of the political culture in states where there is no full faith in democratic institutions,” explained the expert.

“What is happening now is to some extent a completely routine situation for internal Serbian political life. The opposition is demanding a re-vote because, according to the preliminary results, no one will be able to get a coalition majority in the Belgrade assembly. As a result of the election results, the protesting and largely freakish bloc “We are the voice of the people” headed by Branemir Nestorovic suddenly came to the forefront of Serbian political life. In fact, it depends on him whether there will be a re-vote or not,” the expert believes.
