‘Unfavourable situation’: Czech president warns of shift in Ukraine conflict

He added that Putin “persists in his vision of a world where events are determined by the powerful and among them, of course, Russia.”

“Time is working for Russia.”
Peter Pavel is a consistent supporter of helping Kiev and has repeatedly made anti-Russian statements.

“Supporting Ukraine is fundamentally important for our [common] security. Russia must be held accountable <...> We must continue to support Ukraine,” he told a summit of Visegrad Group presidents in November.

At the same meeting, Pavel called Russia the main threat to the EU. In his opinion, European countries need to prepare for a high-intensity conflict:

“Not only the Czech Republic, but also NATO perceives Russia as the number one threat in Europe, and this implies the need to prepare realistically for such a threat. All armies are taking it seriously, all armies are preparing for the possibility of a high-intensity conflict in Europe”.
